Rhode Island School Counseling Framework THIS PAGE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION! The 2024 Rhode Island Framework for Comprehensive K-12 School Counseling Programs represents a collaborative effort to strengthen school counseling statewide, aligning with the ASCA National Model and decades of research. This updated framework positions school counselors as critical agents of systemic change, developing data-driven, preventative programs that close equity gaps and support all students' academic, social/emotional, and career development from kindergarten through grade 12. The Framework outlines four key characteristics of effective schoolwide counseling programs: Comprehensive Build the mindsets and skills students need for academic, career and social/ emotional success. Collaborative Engage administrators, teachers and mental health professionals with counselors to support all students. Preventive Work in an intentional, data-driven and proactive manner to deliver direct and indirect services to students — solving problems before they arise. Developmental Meet the needs of students at different stages of growth. Reflecting diverse educational partners’ input, the framework underscores that effective school counseling is a collaborative, schoolwide effort, with school leaders playing a pivotal role in its implementation and success.
