Federal Program Monitoring
Federal Grants Program Monitoring
Supporting LEA compliance and strengthening outcomes for all Rhode Island students
The Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) administers multiple federally funded education programs to LEAs and State agencies. RIDE must ensure these resources are used effectively across the state. Monitoring focuses on ensuring compliance with federal laws, fiscal responsibility, and the effective use of funds to support students in meeting state standards.
This page focuses on the monitoring of Title I-A (Improving Basic Programs), Title I-D (Neglected and Delinquent Programs), Title III (Language Instruction for English Learners), Title IV-A (Student Support and Academic Enrichment), and the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education of Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) program. These programs provide critical support to help all students, especially those with the greatest needs, meet Rhode Island’s high academic standards.
RIDE’s monitoring process is designed to balance compliance with support—helping districts not only meet federal requirements but also strengthen how these programs serve students.
This approach:
-
Aligns with RIDE’s consolidated funding application and reporting timelines, making it easier for districts to use feedback from monitoring reports to inform future program and budget planning
-
Integrates data and documentation already submitted through existing RIDE systems, thereby reducing the evidence-gathering burden on LEAs and State Agencies, whenever possible; and
-
Incorporates ongoing feedback from the field to continuously improve tools and processes.
Ultimately, RIDE’s goal is to ensure that LEA’s and the State Agency's federal education grant programs comply with requirements while having the greatest possible impact on student achievement across Rhode Island.
