New - Math Matters RI and Learn365RI Municipal Learning Project grant funding announced
Governor Dan McKee and Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green are pleased to announce a new round of grant funding in support of the Math Matters RI initiative and the Learn365RI Municipal Learning Project. This funding is in support of Governor McKee’s Learn365RI Initiative.
This funding is to support out-of-school time learning programs with an explicit focus on mathematics for students currently enrolled in Kindergarten through 8th grade. These programs may include an April Break Math Camp, intensive afterschool and/or weekend math programming, and/or a four (or more)-week summer program. All funds must be spent no later than September 15, 2025. Funding is dependent upon the municipality identifying a team to participate in planning with RIDE staff in spring 2025, which will focus on budget development. Planning teams could include representatives from:
- The municipality that will be the grant recipient.
- One or more Local Education Agencies (LEAs).
- One or more Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), which may include non-profit organizations, town libraries, or recreation departments.
For more information, please see the Call for Partnerships and the form to complete (one per municipality) in order to opt in or decline these funds. The application form is due to RIDE at Learn365RI@ride.ri.gov by 4:00 pm on Friday, March 7, 2025.
Learn365RI
In April 2023, Governor Dan McKee announced a new out-of-school learning initiative, Learn365RI, which is designed to shift learning from the traditional 180 school days to 365 days of learning by supporting partnerships between municipalities, local education agencies (LEAs) and community-based organizations (CBOs) to expand high-quality, extended learning experiences.
The Advancing Learning Beyond the 180-Day School Year grant program is part of the Governor’s Learn365RI initiative, with the long-term goal of improving student learning outcomes and increasing three key metrics:
- Rhode Island Comprehensive Assessment System (RICAS) mathematics and English Language Arts scores
- School attendance rates (chronic absenteeism)
- Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion rates
In partnership with the Governor’s Office, RIDE has been engaging with city and town leaders statewide to strategize and advance the priorities of Learn365RI.
Since its launch, there have been two rounds of funding, totaling $7 million, to support Learn365RI programming in 32 municipalities across RI. Each municipality has taken a different approach to creating partnerships that support youth learning outside of the traditional school day.
