Learning Inside Out Outdoor Classroom Initiative Outdoor education is a powerful tool that all schools can use to deliver for their students. That's why the Rhode Island Department of Education launched the $7.5 million Learning Inside Out Outdoor Classroom Initiative in December 2022. In May 2023, the Council on Elementary and Secondary Education approved 89 projects across 29 local education agencies (LEAs), with additional funds approved for accompanying statewide professional development. The focus of the initiative is to create, enhance, and support equitable access to natural resources for all students, while promoting environmental literacy and community connection. Together with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, RIDE developed a competitive application process that prioritizes sustainability and equity. Important Resources NEW!
