Discovery Education platform provides engaging, K-12 subject-focused content

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) is excited to partner with Discovery Education—the global leader in standards-aligned digital curriculum resources, engaging content, and professional learning for K-12 classrooms—to provide educators, students, and families throughout Rhode Island access to cutting-edge online learning resources through the Discovery Education Experience platform.

Discovery Education Experience offers 190,000 activities and resources for K-12 students and teachers that support core curriculum subjects such as Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, English Language Arts, Health Studies, and more. The site features everything teachers and students need to enhance at-home virtual learning, including engaging videos, interactive activities, and ready-to-use lessons.

“In this moment, Excellence in Learning takes many forms. As RIDE began preparations to embark on Distance Learning last month, we wanted to provide our educators, students, and families with resources that would enrich their at-home experience,” said Angélica Infante-Green, Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education.

“Discovery Education is an ideal partner for us in meeting that goal. Professional learning events, instructional support, and grab-and-go lessons are just a few of the opportunities offered by Discovery Education.”

“Since the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Rhode Island’s educators have demonstrated a passionate commitment to continuing their students’ education through Distance Learning,” said John David Son, Discovery Education’s Senior Manager of Education Partnerships. “We are proud to join the Rhode Island Department of Education’s efforts to support Distance Learning, and we look forward to helping the state’s educators in maintaining the continuity of education.”

It is imperative that RIDE and local education agencies (LEAs) bridge the digital divide that affects students across Rhode Island. RIDE and Discovery Education recognize the inequalities that exist for families that lack up-to-date computers or reliable internet access. As a way to address these challenges, Discovery Education ensures all virtual and digital platforms have full mobile compatibility.

RIDE and Discovery Education held their first professional learning event virtually on April 17. Nearly 750 educators from across the state tuned in to learn how to use Discovery Education Experience’s content to support their virtual lessons. Educators rated the event highly, with one offering, “This is a phenomenal resource for K-12 educators, especially for asynchronous learning!” Other educators were impressed by the array of lessons available: “I’m most excited about the variety of resources! I’ll be looking to use the songs with my 2nd graders next week!”
