Rhode Island 2008 Teacher of the Year - George E. Goodfellow George Goodfellow is a veteran teacher of high school chemistry with 39 years of teaching experience. He began teaching at Scituate High School in 2003, but had previously taught chemistry at New Bedford High School and at the Bristol Community College. George considers himself to be lucky “to have had the opportunity each day, each class, each student to influence, shape and develop young minds and young attitudes.” As a teacher, George emphasizes his belief that each student learns and grows in unique and individual ways and strives to help students discover their strengths and address their weaknesses. He has facilitated workshops and graduate courses for teachers on learning theory and science, receiving recognition from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Wright Center for Science Education at Tufts University, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. George earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a Master of Arts in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from Bridgewater State College.
