Rhode Island Department of Education Reaches Over 100,000 SurveyWorks Responses; Urges Participation from Students, Educators, Families

Published on Tuesday, March 18, 2025

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green and the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) today announced that SurveyWorks has garnered over 100,000 responses and encouraged students, families and educators to respond to the survey. The statewide education survey allows students, families, and educators to provide feedback on the Rhode Island public education system. So far, over 67,000 students, 23,000 families, and 10,000 educators and administrators have submitted responses since the survey opened in January 2025. State leaders also announced that the deadline to submit responses has been extended to Friday, April 4, 2025.

In 2024, RIDE saw a total of over 130,000 responses, the highest received in a year. This included the highest response rate ever from educators and families. Over 80,000 students, over 12,000 educators and administrators, and nearly 36,000 families provided their feedback. This year, RIDE hopes to exceed these rates.

“The momentum surrounding SurveyWorks this year has been inspiring,” said Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green. “We are delighted to be hearing from so many education stakeholders. The annual SurveyWorks is a crucial part of improving our education system. I strongly encourage all students, families and educators to complete the survey.”

As part of the state’s push to hear directly from the community, RIDE is spotlighting schools and their work to promote participation in the survey. Kent Heights Elementary School in East Providence has seen 100% of students, 100% of educators, and 89% of families complete the survey. The school has raised rates by sending home directions with students for SurveyWorks completion in multiple languages, issuing weekly reminders, and sharing the RIDE social media spotlight. The school also created two contests for completing the survey which included student-focused incentives such as a pizza party, and a contest tailored to families which included raffles and other awards.

"We're incredibly proud that one of our very own East Providence schools is being recognized for their hard work to elevate the voices of students, families and school staff in SurveyWorks," said Superintendent Dr. Sandra Forand. "Direct input from the community members we serve is incredibly helpful as we work to improve the educational experience of East Providence families and educators. East Providence will continue to encourage all education stakeholders to participate."

Each week, RIDE will be highlighting schools with the highest response rates on their social media. Students, families, and educators are encouraged to take the survey until it closes on April 4, 2025. They can also view district 2024 results by visiting the SurveyWorks Resource Center on the RIDE website.
