Rhode Island Department of Education Announces Winner of 2023 STEAM Logo Design Contest

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green and the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) today announced the winner of the 2023 annual STEAM Logo Design Contest. Teodor Janiga, a senior at the Met High School in Providence, had his design chosen out of 24 student submissions from across the state. His logo and slogan will be used on promotional materials to highlight the importance of science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) throughout the entire month of November across the state.  

“STEAM education strengthens students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills, while also encouraging them to let their creativity shine,” said Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green. “On behalf of all of us at RIDE, I would like to extend my congratulations to Teodor for his excellent design. Rhode Island is building the foundation for the next wave of forward thinkers, and I am thrilled to continue showcasing their fantastic work.” 

“Thanks to the STEAM Logo Design Contest, our students are able to explore their artistic side and realize the importance of interdisciplinary learning,” said Chair of the Council on Elementary and Secondary Education, Patti DiCenso. “Arts education, intertwined with the other facets of STEAM, empowers our students to think beyond the walls of their classrooms and let their ideas come through. I congratulate Teodor on his wonderful design.” 

Janiga will be attending Fordham University in the fall, majoring in Global Marketing and Consumer Insights while pursuing a minor in Fine Arts and Graphic Design. While at the Met, he most recently interned at the University of Rhode Island’s Launch Lab which allows students to follow through with their entrepreneurial skills and connect with industry professionals.

“Throughout high school, Teo showed a relentless dedication to self improvement. This was done through his willingness to take on a wide array of real-world learning opportunities the Met school offers,” said Met High School Advisor Keith Nalbach. "Teo took full advantage of the Met school philosophy exploring his interests through internships in entrepreneurship, education, computer science and graphic design, to name a few. A role model in our advisory system and a kind soul, it was no wonder so many students strive to be like him and are open to his guidance and leadership. Teo was the catalyst for change for so many, but it all started with his introspective wonder and his philosophical curiosity of the world and people.”
