Public Notification: Summer Food Service Program Waiver Request

Published on Wednesday, April 01, 2020

The Rhode Island Department of Education plans on submitting waivers to request relief from requirements of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) stating that meals not be claimed if a school has an anticipated closure, such as the recently announced teacher planning days and school vacation days.  If granted, these waivers will extend flexibilities to the SFSP to allow for meal service and claiming of those meals served on the above noted days and any other days of the same nature. If granted, the waivers will help ensure children receive food assistance, without interruption, throughout the nationwide emergency due to COVID-19.
