Proposed Changes to the Charter School Regulations
Public Comment - 200-RICR-20-05-2
The Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) is currently in the process of promulgating Rhode Island’s Charter School Regulations (200-RICR-20-05-2). These regulations govern the establishment, operation, and oversight of charter schools in Rhode Island. The Council on Elementary and Secondary Education approved these regulations to go out for public comment at their August 26, 2025, meeting.
As part of the regulatory process, a 30-day public comment period will be open from November 25, 2025 – December 25, 2025. Individuals may submit public comment regarding the proposed regulatory language in the following manner:

- Public comment hearings
RIDE will hold four (2) public comment hearings. The public is invited to provide public comment in person on the regulations on the following dates:
- Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the Rhode Island Department of Education (PAFF Auditorium 1st Floor) 80 Washington Street, Providence, RI, 02903, 5:00 PM
- Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the Woonsocket Public Library, 303 Clinton Street, Woonsocket, RI, 02895, 5:00 PM
Public hearings will begin at 5:00 PM and will last until all public comments are heard. Public comment is welcome and will be considered in any language. If you would like to have language interpretation services or ASL translation services available for use at a hearing, please email christine.kechejian@ride.ri.gov at least one week in advance of the hearing date.
