PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Serve Rhode Island (ServeRI) at the Rhode Island Department of Education has released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the AmeriCorps program. AmeriCorps State Formula funds will be awarded to new or recompeting applicants that recruit, train, and manage AmeriCorps members who address unmet needs in Rhode Island communities.

"ServeRI joined the agency in August, and it continues to be an exciting addition to our portfolio," said Ken Wagner, Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education. "We need to maximize the experience and talent of our state's volunteer workforce, leveraging these resources to support our shared goals for education and beyond. I continue to be impressed by Rhode Island AmeriCorps members and what they bring to the table, and I look forward to seeing what our next round of grantees put forth to improve quality of life for all Rhode Islanders."

AmeriCorps members work on any of six focus areas identified by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Grant awards will be distributed based on these focus areas, which include education, economic opportunity, and improving health outcomes.
