Office of Instruction, Assessment & Curriculum The Office of Instruction, Assessment and Curriculum (IAC) supports standards-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Introduction The Office of IAC provides guidance, resources, and technical assistance to support standards-based curriculum and instruction as part of the Basic Education Program and Rhode Island Strategic Plan through a variety of instructional initiatives and resources, including resources supporting literacy, mathematics, science, civics and social studies, fine arts, health education, physical education, and early childhood education. The Office of IAC staff also oversee the development and administration of the Rhode Island Common Assessment System in literacy and mathematics for grades 3-8 and high school; the new state science assessment in grades 5, 8, and 11; and the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) Alternate Assessments in grades 3-8 and 11 in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics, and in grades 5, 8, and 11 in science.
