RI Model Guidance & FAQs

This page provides guidance and answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the RI Model Evaluation & Support System. Topics relate to evaluation system standards and laws that impact local implementation of evaluation systems.

Educator Evaluation System Standards

Since the 2012-13 school year, Rhode Island LEAs have each implemented one of the five state-approved evaluation systems that meet RIDE’s Educator Evaluation System Standards. Regardless of which model LEAs use, these standards provide a framework through which to structure high-quality evaluation systems. At their core, evaluation systems aim to foster continuous improvement and growth through high-quality feedback and on-going discussions about educator practice.

Cyclical Legislation

RIGL 16-12-11 is the law that explains the cyclical process for teachers and support professionals evaluated in RI public schools. Please refer to these guidance documents explaining how districts should stagger caseloads, and evaluated educators based on their Final Effectiveness Ratings.

District Evaluation Committees (DECs)

As stated in the Educator Evaluation System Standards, each LEA should maintain a District Evaluation Committee, comprised of teacher leaders, evaluators, and district leadership. This committee is meant to be the decision-making body for the evaluation system and processes necessary for implementation. The following guidance was written to help frame the purpose and role of this committee at the district level.
