Welcome to the Office of Network and Information Systems Web
site.
The Department of Education annually collects a large variety of data from
schools and districts - much of it required by state or federal mandates. Some of this
information is annually compiled in the form of school and district reports as part of
Information Works! - a comprehensive set of indicators that monitors and reports to the
public on overall quality of public schools in Rhode Island. Information Works! includes
data on student achievement, dropout and graduation rates, student mobility, school
discipline, school finances, and survey data from parents, students, teachers, and
administrators. Education data is used to inform state and local policymaking, local
media, program decisions within districts and schools, and the work of educational
nonprofits across the state. The quality of department efforts has been nationally
recognized in awards from the American Educational Research Association and the National
Center for Education Statistics at the U.S. Department of Education.
Subject to confidentiality and privacy rules, the department makes
available pertinent data sets to interested parties to
better inform research and policy
studies and decisions. See
