What is the RIDE Data Warehouse?
RIDE believes that the use of information improves the quality of education provided to students.
RIDE is in the process of redesigning its data warehouse to bring together data from
a variety of different sources.
The new warehouse will provide clear, timely, accurate data via different platforms
to specific end-users.
Parents, teachers, administrators, policymakers
and researchers will then be able to make informed decisions about instruction, educational programs, and policies.
What are the RIDE Data Warehouse Goals & Benefits?
- Bring together the mountains of educational information that are currently
separate, into a central integrated repository;
- Allow for analysis of data across data sets;
- Provide appropriate data to data platforms for different
end-users;
- Deliver information to the appropriate decision makers throughout the state;
- Allow RIDE to validate data across different data collections;
- Improve quality, security, transparency and availability of
education data;
- Improve confidence in RIDE data;
- Increase efficiency of state and federal reporting;
- Allow parents to see information about their children's schools;
- Allow teachers to see relevant information about the students in their classroom
and have access to resources to meet the needs of those students;
- Allow administrators to see information they need to make policy and programmatic decisions;
- Give researchers the tools necessary to find correlations between educational factors.
How will I use the RIDE Data Warehouse?
Almost everyone who uses the Data Warehouse will actually access
data from one of various data platforms. These include:
-
InfoWorks!
- This site is designed primarily for parents. It provides a
wide range of information about schools, districts and the
state.
- Instructional Management System (IMS) - This platform is
being developed for teachers. The IMS will provide access to
curricular, instructional, professional development and student
support materials.
- Educator Performance and Support System (EPSS)
- This tool is being developed for teachers and administrators
to help manage all aspects of the
RI
Educator Evaluation process.
- Growth Model Visualization - This site will have different
levels of access for parents, teachers and others and will show
student growth on state assessments over time.
- RI DataHub - This site is designed for researchers and
others who want to know see how education data interrelates with
data from other state and federal sources.
How will the RIDE Data Warehouse work?
Below is a schematic showing the flow of data throughout the
Enterprise Data System. Data come from school districts and other
sources through various collections into the eRIDE system and are
validated. Data then move into the Operational Data Store, where,
among other processes, cross-domain validations are applied. Data
are then stored in the Data Warehouse itself for historical
purposes. Individual Data Marts are used to provide the specific
data needed for federal reports or for each data platform, where
most users will actually access the data.
