The Aspiring Turnaround Leaders Program

In 2013 and 2014, the Academy for Transformative Leadership graduated two cohorts of Turnaround Leaders. The Aspiring Turnaround Leaders program recruited, selected, and prepared passionate, high potential educators to assume leadership roles in Rhode Island schools that have been identified as underperforming. This rigorous, standards-based 10-month program included problem-based training and intensive simulations, a full-time residency with a mentor principal, and certification as a school building level administrator. It was specifically designed for aspiring leaders whose goal is to transform schools to better serve children. Program graduates committed to at least three years’ leadership in Rhode Island’s schools. They are currently serving as principals of high poverty schools, heads of school in charter networks, and district instructional leaders.
