Introduction
The Office of Multiple Pathways includes the teams of Secondary Education, Career and Technical Education, Adult Basic Education and GED, and Virtual Learning teams.  RIDEs Office of Multiple Pathways is developing a cohesive system of learning opportunities that integrate academic and 21st Century work and career ready skills to ensure that all learners, grades K-Adult, will have access to diverse program options that match their career interests and the ways they wish to pursue them. Within those programs, they will be provided with choices that allow them to create a challenging, yet realistic learning plan that focuses on their individual interests.

The result: universal equity and access into programs and practices for all learners who will be prepared to enter the workforce make the inevitable shift to new work, perhaps in new industries, which the current Rhode Island economy requires. All learners in RI benefit from work of Multiple Pathways office. Imagine a system that would provide all learners with:

  • Access to learning programs focused on each student's career interests.
  • A thoughtful integration of academic and technical skill development.
  • Opportunities to engage with adults working in the student's career interest area.
  • Requirements that allow them to exhibit skill and understanding through authentic performance demonstrations.
  • Opportunities to obtain, in addition to a high school diploma, multiple forms of certifications and credentials that lead to increased access to post secondary education and training.

All of the above provided in the workplace and community as well as in all schools and learning environments.
