PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green and the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) today announced that the agency has received over 100,000 responses for its annual SurveyWorks. The statewide education survey allows students, families, and educators the chance to provide feedback on the the Rhode Island public school experience. So far, over 68,000 students, 26,000 families, and nearly 11,000 educators have submitted responses since the survey opened in January 2024. The survey response deadline is March 31, 2024.

In 2023, RIDE saw a total of over 120,000 responses, and had the highest response rates ever from three key audiences: administrators, educators and families, while the student response rate returned to pre-pandemic levels after declining in previous years. The agency hopes to exceed these rates with this year’s survey administration.

“It is wonderful to see momentum around SurveyWorks as we continue to encourage community members to participate,” said Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green. “I am thrilled to see we have reached over 100,000 responses thus far and look forward to hearing from even more stakeholders. This survey is crucial as it allows us to hear directly from our students, families and educators.”

In light of this milestone, Commissioner Infante-Green commended local school leaders across the state for their efforts in increasing SurveyWorks participation. Winman Middle School in Warwick had exceptionally high response rates among all three audiences, making it the middle school with the highest response rates in the state thus far. 90% of students, 94% of families, and 84% of educators have provided feedback as of March 19.

“The high participation rate in SurveyWorks proves that the Winman School Community is invested in their school,” said Principal Adam Heywood. “By taking the time to share their perspective, stakeholders provide us with valuable feedback. From day one I made it clear that our goal was to exceed the response rate from last year. We want our families, faculty and students to have a voice and a seat at the table.”

At William D’Abate Elementary School in the Providence Public School District (PPSD), 96% of students, 78% of educators and 100% of families have responded. West Broadway Middle School has also seen high response rates from students and educators, with 89% and 92% of them responding, respectively.

“The data that SurveyWorks provides each year is critical to our continued efforts in transforming Providence Public Schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Javier Montañez. “Last year, we saw strong improvements in family engagement and learning outcomes. We hope to continue with these gains and encourage those who have not taken the survey to do so.”

Each week, RIDE will be highlighting schools with the highest response rates on social media. Students, families and educators are encouraged to take the survey until March 31, 2024. They are also able to view their district’s 2023 results by visiting the SurveyWorks Resource Center on the RIDE website.
